. . . okay no but in more detail, Hank is . . . really fond of her. Like ridiculously fond. Like, aside from the fact that they can bond about Certain Things, she brings out a lot of his best side; she makes him laugh, he enjoys hanging around and teasing her, and he doesn't mind being bullied/teased in return. It's comfortable and he really does think of her as a little sister.
On the other hand, her whole . . . situation makes him worry. A lot. He understands as much as she's seen/told him, but he wants to know more so he can HELP. How, he doesn't know. There isn't a lot he can do at the moment without the right memories/skills to do so, but he's determined to . . . if she'll let him. He isn't the sort to push - and in fact, he wants it to be her choice, letting him do . . . whatever. But it will always worry him and he will always worry because what the hell even is your world, Viva.
He does have a super protective side and it has yet to really be - triggered? But god forbid someone hurts her outside of a game. He is absolutely not the type to go after someone but that isn't to say he wouldn't. Aside from canonmates, she's probably one of the few real friends he's ever had and he'll do almost anything to protect that.
I demand a reverse, I must know Viva's feelings on Dorkface McCoy.
LMAO, oh good!! GUESS WHO THINKS OF HIM AS A BIG BROTHER. That's right, this one right here. Hank's definitely the strongest CR Viva has outside her team; I still don't know how it happened fast as it did, but like, you know how she gets about Joel? Where she forgives him all sorts of things so long as he doesn't abandon her? APPLY THAT TO HANK. He could be the beast he supposedly looks like (which she still doesn't see tbh), or he could be hyperaggressive and kill people easily and she would just shrug and go "okay".
So. Keep worrying about her situation, 'cuz it ain't changing anytime soon. Fortunately most of their interactions—barring the recent somber ones—are the kind that make her forget the kind of shit she's supposed to be remembering. When he told her that bit about never really getting over the bad memories, rather just learning not to focus on them so much... that was really good for her! She's still torn up over what happened to Tess and her own situation in general and especially now that GM happened and she's relearning how scared she is of dying.
BUT HANK GOT SHITKICKED IN THAT GAME so she's kinda angry on his behalf more than her own. She's afraid of losing him, even if he doesn't make a conscious decision to leave her. This entire PLACE is working to fuck over the one thing she knows grew organically (HA HA HA THAT'S A PUN I'M HILARIOUS). Viva cares ferociously and deeply about Amalthea and she will rip people's throats out if they try to hurt them outside a game, but the fact is she woke up on that team not knowing what anyone was like or if she'd even like them, but no matter what she'd have to cooperate with them as a team. Hank, though, warmed up to her pretty darn quick, even before she heard about stuff like alliances and learned he was technically allied to Amalthea.
All this is a really roundabout way of saying that if you took Joel and removed the ruthlessness and killing innocents and the lying father figure aspects of him and just kept Ellie's jumping-into-rapids-when-she-can't-swim protectiveness, that's how she feels about Hank. She wants to give him more reasons to keep on smiling ("so you do have a laugh") and has resolved to do her damn best to make sure what happened to Gulgallana doesn't happen again, ever. LOVE HER, HANK. You're her superhero.
Any threads you want to do in the future?? A conversation they should have, or a memory they should share? More puns? TELL ME!!!
ANY AND EVERYTHING?? I hate saying that but it's true because I really love any thread they have and I will accept all of them. Though I DO look forward to her reaction to him . . . not exactly shutting down, but - shutting down. Go go DOFP cries about it for centuries.
personally I am looking forward to any kind of thread that might get a rise out of Hank. like I don't necessarily want her to get him angry but it'd be interesting if she did... not sure if that's even possible though!! sweats profusely
also, sharing more memories. talking about them to one another or actually straight up "here's a shard, put it in and you'll- you'll get it". OPENING UP TO ONE ANOTHER rather than Viva just kinda hinting at shit without explaining things properly.
I really liked our last thread where she fell asleep on him. more of that in the future!!
tl;dr HE SORT OF SHUTS DOWN EMOTIONALLY because of everything that happens at the end of FC and the ten years following. It's part maturing/part adjusting/part coping with all of it. DOFP doesn't go into it all that much but there's one scene where he's explaining what happened with Charles and it's. Kinda obvious that Things Have Changed. And Nick Hoult discussed it in an interview and it made me sad.
It's possible!! He'd feel bad about it afterwards because he's Hank Dorkface but I would love to see how something like that would play out. Also yes to sharing memories and opening up!! Hank doesn't open up often but he trusts Viva enough to do it with her - which is interesting considering their age difference but he doesn't. Really think of her as a kid all that often even if he calls her a brat.
YES MORE OF THAT oh god tl;dr i want all of this and more
What memory are you looking forward to Viva getting back the most?
nnnnnNNNNNOOOOOO NOW I'M SAD!! refuses to ever watch the newer xmen movies so that it never hurts me
Prrrobably the most likely way they would argue would be if Viva did something like what Fade did in GM; "I'm gonna handle this so you don't have to", which may or may not actually become a feasible thing for her, depending on what other stuff future trauma games hold for her/her Important People. HFFF!! YOU'RE NOT THAT MUCH OLDER THAN HER ANYWAY, HANK. at least. NOT THAT YOU REMEMBER!!!!!
lol giving David his But like, I am partly super excited to give her that one back, but at the same time I am tempted to just leave it locked foreverrrr!!! Her teammates' reactions would be p. amazing and it was necessary growth for her character buuut it also kind of broke the Ellie that we knew prior to that, y'know; she lost something then and it never came back to her. So it's an exciting memory to consider, for shock factor and development, just. Also one I will have to pick veeeery carefully so as not to break Viva AND break any teammates who pick that shard up. Breaking David's finger is also up there, bc it's got all the badass Ellie without the traumatic "he tried to—" and full-scale tragedy.
A less horrible memory I want to give her back really badly is kissing Riley. Just because I want everyone (including herself) to find out just how gay she is. She hinted at Hank that she leans that-a-way in that closet thread but she never really affirmed it and it since slipped her mind kind of because... everything else happening in Kyr rn, so I wanna drop that bomb and see how unsurprised literally all of her CR is.
Is Hank prepared for the big brotherly role that is giving her advice on how to woo girls.
no you should watch FC and DOFP because they are the best and Hank has some COOL MOMENTS and he supposedly has an even bigger role in apocalypse!!!
though yeah that sort of thing would make him mad! Even tough he's a hypocrite!! He's just not prone to . . . outright saying that's what he's going to do. I AM TWICE YOUR AGE AND I KINDA FEEL IT AND KINDA REMEMBER IT OK
I don't remember the David memory but I remember the Riley memory and yes you should drop that bomb so Hank can not be surprised and tease her instead.
No because you say that as though Hank knows how to woo girls, he literally has a scene in FC where he and Raven go off to talk and the food he brings is twinkies and coke.
