33. The first encounter in the swamps ★ (Neutral Neutral)
This. Please excuse draft writing oh god it isn't fleshed out cries.
Anyway, slightly less tl;dr version: Tempest is traveling through swamps in the west with a group that includes her cousin, a familiar hero, a young dwarven girl and Maias. They end up getting ambushed by some creature that no one is familiar with that . . . is huge and has tentacles and throws huge, thin steel spikes. The fuck?
The group ends up scattering and the long-ranged fighters (namely Tempest and Baelvan) attack the creature the best they can. Both attacks hit, but as Tempest is turning to Maias (of all people) to coordinate another attack, one of those spikes goes through the tree she was hiding behind and right through her shoulder.
But she waves off any help and tells them to go and she'll catch up, because she intends to draw the creature's attentions so they can escape. And . . . that's exactly what happens, only it backfires on Tempest when another spike explodes through the tree and right through her stomach.
She barely has time to panic, at least, because Maias is right there to help. She ends up channeling her magic through him and into one of his daggers, so he can cut through the spikes to free her. It takes . . . a while, and at one point Maias has to throw one of his daggers into the swamp to draw the creature's attentions away, but finally Tempest is free.
Maias quickly decides for both of them that an escape is better than standing and fighting, and he tells her to heal herself as he's half-carrying her away. She manages to at least close the wound in her stomach before she . . . passes out.
The memory ends there.
What she learned:
- This memory comes with a faint, but important impression that she's traveling in search of something.
- She's familiar with the swamps - they're a common shortcut to the coast, which is where they're heading. Except there is something very, very off about it this time. No animals, it's quiet, etc, etc.
- What the hell attacked them? And why is it there, these swamps were fairly safe??
- The creature itself, from what Tempest can see of it, vaguely resembles a kraken but . . . this is a swamp and the creature is moving on land and it's smaller than y'know, the average kraken.
- Well that explains where THOSE scars come from and also OUCH being impaled is terrible
- Okay but WHY IS SHE TRAVELING WITH THAT HERO AGAIN
- And who is the dwarven girl??
- And most importantly WHY THE FUCK IS MAIAS THERE AND ALIVE AND SDKLJFSD???
In summary: what in the everloving christ is this memory she will be so confused because this is the first memory she has that comes after her cousin's death/revival
