18. Murdering the group she was with to save the half-blood village they were staying in ★ (Significant Neutral)
This takes place when she's about 23! So she's working with a group of men who hired her as magical protection, as most groups are wont to do, and they're traveling through the woods to their destination. They come across an isolated village and decide to stop there for the night! The people of the village are very welcoming and kind, as they don't normally get "outsiders" to their village. And then, one of the men overhears that it's a half-blood village and reports it to the rest of them.
The boss of the group, a man who Tempest never bothered learning the name of, gathers all of them together to talk about what they should do, since half-elves are evil etc, etc. They come to the conclusion that they should burn the village to the ground; Tempest goes along with it in her usual unemotional way.
. . . until that night. The plan was, to sleep until a few hours before dawn, but Tempest waited until they'd all fallen asleep to put her plan into motion. One by one she murders each of them - instead of using her magic, which would be a little more merciful, she uses her dagger, slitting throats, etc. The nice thing about her line of work is that you learn how to make a person suffer until they die, and that's exactly what she does, to each and every one of them. It's a remorseless slaughter.
When she comes to the last one, a young man who recently joined with them, he stops her and begs for his life, saying that he's half-elvish (he'd been claiming to be elf) and that he'd been waiting for the right moment to alert the village elders, but until then had been too scared to even leave, in case he accidentally woke the rest of them. He thanks her and says that he'll tell the elders what happened, so she wouldn't be persecuted, and because she saved the village! She's a hero!
What does Tempest do? She waits until he goes to do that to leave herself, because she isn't a hero, and she isn't going to let anyone consider her one, either. GJ, Tempest.
What she learned:
- Humans are DOUCHEBAGS +100 hatred of them holy shit
- Welp. So that's how you make someone suffer before death
- She will do absolutely everything in her power to make sure what happened to her village will never happen again, if she's around
