Canon | RAMBLY NOTES.

SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED or may not have, idk who's a tabletop player here, but I am playing FAST AND LOOSE with Dungeons and Dragons knowledge/canon. While Tempest is a tabletop character, when I stopped playing I fleshed her out for the hell of it (which is where her background comes from), and it's been ten years since then. So a lot of her world is a mix of whatever I can find on the internet/stuff I mix up with LoTR/shit I make up as I go/etc. Also it's been ten years and I lost my character sheet long ago.

ANYWAY. Some things I felt like tossing out there, so I don't forget what I've come up with already.

- GODS. Tempest came from a half-elf village who worshipped Nature and Earth spirits instead of gods. Not to say Elves don't worship gods, as that is a thing in D&D! But her village was so isolated and etc that somehow that became the thing instead, long before she was born. She doesn't openly worship them or anything, but some of her spells are purely Elven in nature and act as a sort of prayer when she's casting, kind of like "Thank you for letting me use this power" type deal.

That isn't to say she doesn't know OF Gods. Dragonborns believe they're decendants of Bahamut, humans have their own beliefs, etc, etc. She knows the legends and stories behind a lot of them from her travels, and has even participated in one or two ceremonies; which is why the thought of gods being so accessible and *there* weirds her out a little, as to her knowledge, they never even show themselves in her world.

- Tempest speaks both Common and Elven, with a handful of other languages bits tossed in there. Common *isn't* her first language, which is why a lot of her speech is formal and polite - you know how you learn formal speech first and then informal when learning a language? That's how it was for her. She's fluent, of course! But informalities and slang are things she never really bothered to learn, though she's picked up a lot. (Also, she likes how she sounds, so she just keeps with it)

For anyone who can speak Elven, however, will notice that she's far more informal when she does, and can pretty much curse up a storm if need be. Also her Elven is sort of a jumbling of different dialects. She can speak a few of them more clearly, but in general her Elven is a bit of a mess, aside from spells.

- HER VOICE. She has a low, somewhat soft tone of voice, that isn't really feminine or masculine-sounding. This is MOSTLY on purpose, as she's spent so long "disguising" herself as Tempest so to speak that it's just how she speaks now. If you get her going, or she's more comfortable with you, her voice is a little less low, a little more feminine. She also tends towards more gender-neutral words for herself, again, out of habit.

- HALF-ELVES. In D&D, they get along with both races. In the world Tempest is from, half-elves are seen more as . . . hmm, outcasts? There's definitely a stigma there from both sides. On the other hand, it's very hard to determine if a half-elf is either or because they share traits from both sides that Tempest pretty much rolls with whatever you think she is. ELF ONE DAY, HUMAN THE NEXT. She doesn't care, but will very, very rarely openly admit she's half-elf.

- Like I mentioned above with the brief touch on religion, a lot of Tempest's spells are Earth and Nature-based. However she tends towards the more generally know spells, so she doesn't use the Elven ones very often, and also because those require her to actually speak the incantation in Elven.

Her spells of choice, though, are Fire and Lightning-based. They do the most damage in the quickest amount of time, and she can cast those without incantations or whatever. She also knows others, as well as Healing spells, but those are mostly Elven and like I said, rarely uses them.

And yes, she has Magic Missile.

- Rarely refers to people by name. Everyone is "sir", "miss", "ma'am", "child", etc. If she's fond of you, it's "my dear" or "my dear X". That isn't to say she doesn't know names! But some of it is the avoidance of forming deeper connections and also habit.

More About Tempest's World:

- Basically your standard Fantasy world. THINK TOLKIEN, only a little more modern in that there's huge cities scattered across the country, smaller villages surrounding those and tucked away in the woods, etc. There's a capital in the center of the country, an ocean to the west, and a few islands just off the coast.

There IS a Monarchy - King, Queen, etc - but they aren't really the ruling power, but more figureheads. There's a government who handles everything, with an official being in charge of certain areas, and village heads having their own power when it comes to things that deal with the entire country. Kind of like a Parliament, in a way. There's also a military, knights, etc, but they act more as a police force than anything.

Tempest comes from one of those smaller villages tucked away in the woods which was destroyed just before her coming of age. She spends most of her time in the capital, where all the work comes from.

- RACES. Some get along, some don't. I already went over half-elves, but dwarves, unlike in Tolkien, get along with elves and half-elves alike, though tend towards half-elves more. Humans are humans and either love or hate everyone, Dragonborns are also fickle depending on how they were "born"*; it's basically your standard, diverse world. There have been wars between groups in the past but everything is fairly at peace now, with those groups just kind of grumbling at each other from their hypothetical corners.

* Dragonborns, according to what I've found, are either born that way or accept the traits of a dragon and become one that way, probably through some crazy ritual, idk my bff D&D wiki. I AM PLAYING WITH BOTH.
