Kyriakos | Memory 40

40. Finding Moadan ★ (Neutral Positive)

It's late at night when they Tempest and her group (Maias suspiciously absent) when they finally reach Traeth, a small "town" - more like encampment - far down south that's literally in the middle of nowhere. There's a sense that no one travels down this way because of the area itself, or what lives inside.

As they approach, though, Breis walks smack right into a barrier keeping him out. There's some laughter and teasing, but as it turns out, no one else can get through it either. Cyr and Baelvan try to no avail, leaving it to Tempest. She makes a joke that it's only because she's a mage that she's able to pass through -

And . . . ends up being able to pass through. But before she can make fun of them for not being able to pass through, she cries out in pain and practically collapses because haha the barrier is made up of dark magic. It takes her a few minutes to recover (and with this comes some intense, brief pain since this magic is poisonous to Tempest) but once she does she decides she'll proceed further in on her own, since . . . well, she has no choice.

She doesn't make it very far, though, before she's surrounded by dragonborn; humanoid-like creatures who are part human and part dragon, although how it "looks" varies. They immediately bring their weapons up to stop her, and Tempest removes her belt tosses it towards one of them, putting her hands up.

She goes on to explain that she means them no harm, and that she seeks the priest Moadan the Dragonborn. Immediately, the weapons are dropped and she's welcomed into their camp, which confuses the hell out of her. In fact, she's lead right up to Moadan's tent, where she's invited in and given tea.

Moadan himself is an older "man" who, unlike most of the others in the camp, looks more human than dragon - although his face is mostly covered in scales and he has long claws on one hand. He tells Tempest that he had been expecting her, as the Mage had already visited him and told him that others would be coming. (Tempest can't help but think she's going to murder the Mage for sending them on this long journey, but details)

He goes on to say that he'll drop the barrier for her friends and invite them in to rest and eat until the following day, and they can set out as soon as convenient. Tempest, naturally wary, asks why he's so willing to believe it all, and says that he's also been to the Seer, who confirmed something he had also heard. (He does't elaborate here)

Before she gets up to go meet the others, she has to ask why she's the only one who can get through the barrier. Moadan explains that most dragonborn aren't pure-blooded, and that the barrier is specially crafted to keep out those who are - except for other dragonborn who are pure-blooded, of course. When Tempest starts laughing, Moadan seems confused, but asks how she managed to get through. She tells him that she's half-elf, and that that was the first time what she was came in handy.

What she learned:
- Traeth's location in relation to Carmathen. Also it's south and it's really warm down there, which she's more than alright with.
- Dark magic STILL. FUCKING. HURTS.
- Dragonborns, what they are, and how they're created: Pure-bloods are born purely of magic, while others go through a very long ritual to become that way (Moadan falls under the latter)
- Moadan is a dragonborn priest! Which means he's a master of dark magic, great.
- Moadan was already aware of the prophecy (???) and knew they were coming (@#$%)
- She can get through his barriers because she's an abomination HAHAHAHA irony.
- ok but WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS PROPHECY.
