Kyriakos | Skill 2 & Memory 11
Basic Magic (elven)
This is the most basic offensive magic! Fireballs and ice spells, mostly, and a few other basic spells like binding and light spells. Though the former two, in Tempest's case, are more relevant.
11. Taking up the name "Tempest", cutting and dying her hair ☀★ (Significant Neutral)
This memory starts off with Aurae, about sixteen or so, sneaking around what looks like the "bad" side of town. She's only been here a few times, but she's running low on coin, and she can't keep accepting the squire's hospitality, which means she has to resort to pick-pocketing. She feels bad about this; once she finds a drunk wandering out of a tavern, she picks his pockets and after finding safety in an alleyway, she quietly apologizes to her parents.
But there's something different going on today - people are signing up for the campaigns. Curious, and having never seen such a gathering, Aurae maneuvers through the crowd to find out just what's going on. She quickly finds out that these are men looking for work as mercenaries, accepting jobs anywhere from protection, to thievery, to outright murder. She figures it must be a worthwhile line of work, if so many have shown up. She overhears a man talking to another, though, and her blood runs cold: Maias had returned and left already, despite rumors having spread of his death. He wasn't here, but this is what he did.
An idea starts to form.
Later, after a few stops at some shops, Aurae is back in the squire's room. She's immediately a whirlwind of angry motion, commandeering the lone mirror in the room and spending a good hour in front of it trying to cut her hair. She dyes her hair next, using a mixture one of the shopkeepers had kindly shown her how to make, her hair going from dark blond to a jet black color.
The squire, Aelemar, comes back just as she's finishing, and he nearly drops the dinner he'd been bringing back for them. He asks what she's doing, why she would do that to her hair - and she cuts him off by telling him that she has to leave, and that she's thankful for everything he's done for her.
He tries to plead for her to stay, and she cuts him off again telling him that she no longer will answer to the name "Aurae", and that she has taken up the name "Tempest" - and that Aurae died along with her village.
Aelemar doesn't understand, and she decides against trying to explain what she'd intended to do. She quickly cleans up and gathers her few belongings, and on her way out kisses Aelemar on the cheek, thanking him again, and promising that they would meet again one day.
And before he can try to stop her, she leaves. The memory ends.
What she learned:
- This is a while after her village - she's a little older.
- Oh she was a street rat, look at that.
- SO MUCH GUILT about pick-pocketing.
- Little bit of detail about how her religion works.
- A general idea of what downtown in Carmarthen, the capital, is like.
- A general idea of how the campaigns work, and how mercenaries work.
- Oh he's talking about Maias and how he's not dead HA HA THANKS TO HER VILLAGE
- How to make the dye that she used to keep her hair black.
- She'd been staying with Aelemar a while; they're a bit too familiar with one another for it to have been a few days.
- So . . . this is how Tempest was "born".
