CHARACTER NAME: Tempest
CHARACTER SERIES: Original
SPECIES: Half-elf
AGE: 28
CANON POINT: Post-Exsilium
CLASS/ABILITIES: Tempest is a mage/healer! She has control over elemental spells (primarily fire and ice) and basic to intermediate healing spells. Most of her spells, however, have their energy drawn from nature, so no nature = very watered down spells (this is known as the Elven system of magic in her world). Additionally, she has some control over magic that is purely personal energy (the Human system) and spells like magic missile and whatnot (since her world/mechanics are heavily based on Dugeons & Dragons)
HISTORY: Have a handy-dandy link to Tempest's application to Exsilium: http://hyanaimne.dreamwidth.org/12312.html
But to summarize: Tempest lead a fairly average life until her village was burnt and her lover nearly killed her, and after she recovered she swore that she would seek revenge on him. In order to do this, she cut and dyed her hair, changed her name, and became a mercenary in order to hunt him down. She made a name for herself doing this, and was often hired as magical protection for groups campaigning for treasure, though it wasn't uncommon that she was hired simply to kill someone who was a threat to someone else, and vice versa.
It took her eight years to finally track down Maias, her ex-lover, and instead of murdering him on the spot, she joined his group of thieves and mercenaries and ended up working for him, and eventually falling back in love with him. And two years passed before she finally worked up the nerve to kill him via poisoning - only that backfired due to his immunity to poisons and she slit his throat instead. She didn't survive long after that; when Maias' men discovered his body, they immediately came after her, and after an attempt to fight them off, Tempest was shot with an arrow and used her last breath to the men she was fighting with a powerful spell.
Except, next she knew she was waking up in a small cottage, by herself, recovering her injuries. The person responsible was nowhere to be found, and her only clue was the symbol of a wheel, burnt into her left shoulder. Once she had regained enough strength, she healed her remaining wounds and returned to the capital of her country, only to learn that the Drow, a race of elves considered "evil" and hated just as much as half-elves in her world, had begun to attack the cities to the north. She decided that was her best lead into finding the person who brought her back (and kill them), and allowed herself to be hired on with a group of Elven and human soldiers. They're goal is to sneak behind enemy lines and sabotage the Drow from there.
She spends a year and a few months working with this group - and more importantly, learns that her uncle and cousin are a part of the group. Though, how all of this turns out is still a mystery to her, because she ended up in Exsilium - twice.
She's brought into Exsilium first right after her death, and quickly learns that her loner nature is just not going to work out with all these friendly people around. She starts to open up - and it isn't until they end up in space, and an unfortunate attack by space zombies, that she begins to really change. The most important event during this is when she ends up helping Peter Rumancek and Peter Lahey, the latter being bitten by one of the zombies and slowly dying. She becomes close to both, and helps Peter remove the infection before Isaac can die.
The next important event in Tempest's history in Exsilium is the mutiny; a group of unhappy Transports (what PCs are known as in the game) decided that they don't like how things are handled by the NPCs and stage a mutiny, which involves cutting power, taking over the machine responsible for sending PCs on missions to the pass, and generally causing a ruckus to make their demands known. Tempest joins in to use her magic to stage a trap for anyone capable of teleporting and to provide magical protection to the main group - but unknown to her, Tempest accidentally traps Stephanie Brown, who happens to be claustrophobic.
She doesn't find out about this until after the mutineers are captured, a mutual friend, Jesse Pinkman, takes her powers away, and hanks to Sonya, a woman who is representing the mutineers making a public post on the network about what happened. Peter also lets her know about it, and rather than causing a public fuss, which she would have done before everything, she settles things privately with Stephanie (who doesn't blame her) and Jesse (who she makes up with afterwards).
This particular event in Exsilium is extremely important to Tempest's history because it isn't too long after that that she's sent back home to experience more of her own history, starting from when she's brought back to life. It also gives her that much more trust in others that it allows her to work with that group of soldiers; without these experiences in Exsilium, she would have never joined the war, and, more than likely, just hunted down the person responsible for reviving her and killed herself after that. There'll be more detail on this down in the personality section.
When Exsilium ends, Tempest takes the opportunity to travel to a world that allows world-hopping, and spends the next month or so moving from world to world in search of somewhere she can finally settle down on, so to speak. Except then some dragons decided they needed her, THANKS WARFORGED.
PERSONALITY: Tempest is motivated by, first and foremost, her own goals. She's a business woman, and in general, puts herself before others. As a mercenary, she is loyal to whoever she is working with and/or for, but this can change on a whim, depending on if it interferes with her own goals, or even if she gets a better offer. She's a loner by nature, and would rather spend the rest of her days alone than trusting anyone easily.
She's also the sort of person who won't let anyone treat her like she's a pushover. She has and will punch someone if they've offended her, and will even go as far as setting them on fire (oops) if they really push her buttons. She's blunt and to the point, and hates when people waste her time with trivialities. And while her sword is, for the most part, mostly for show as she prefers her magic, she has and will prove that she's no slouch with it.
On that note, she has very little sense of self-preservation, even after what she's gone through back home and in Exsilium. She's knocked on death's door more than once, and even died once, but even this hasn't really changed her views on herself. Despite her choice to become a mercenary (and a murderer), she feels that she will never seek redemption - though this stems more from her village's religion and the way she was raised (murderers are not allowed in Elven cities, for example). Though this won't stop her from occasionally doing the Right Thing in order to appease her parents, both of whom were murdered when her village was destroyed - and especially if it involves saving the lives of other half-bloods in her world. She's gone as far as to murder an entire group of men to stop them from destroying a village similar to hers, after all. But on the other hand, she refuses to take credit for her good deeds - she'll leave before she can be thanked for what she's done, and pretty much refuses to let others look at her in a positive light if she can help it.
However, when it comes to people she cares about, she tends to put them before her. As a loner, it's very hard for Tempest to learn to trust others, but when she does, they've earned her trust for life - unless they stab her in the back, literally and metaphorically. She cares, deeply, and it shows in her interactions. However, her deepest fear is being abandoned by the people she has grown to care about, and it takes her quite a while to open up with them past the teasing and playful flirting she engages them with. It's much like she's put up a wall between herself and others, but once she starts to open up, she warily offers them the sledgehammer to knock that wall down.
Exsilium was also a chance for her to stop hiding what she was - as mentioned in her history, half-elves are seen as monsters, but in Exs she was able to openly admit to it, both to human and elves PCs, and was never once judged for it. This was a big step in her allowing her to trust others a little more easily, and even allowed her to go around without hiding physically - which, considering she spent ten years hiding under a hood, is a big step. She even went as far as to grow out her hair, which while not significant compared to the other changes from Exsilium, is still a huge step for someone who previously, didn't give a damn about how she looked.
The only thing that hasn't changed is Tempest's anger. While she is the sort to hit now, ask questions later, her anger is slow burning - there's no warning for when she actually will hit, and for the most part she comes off more annoyed than anything. Though she is better at reigning it in - save for rude men in bars. Then she has no problems whatsoever setting them on fire to teach them a lesson.
All in all, Tempest is still learning how to open up and trust people; and she will never, truly put aside everything that's happened to her. But thanks to her relationships and thanks to the events in Exsilium and at home, she's learning.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
A. The Frienemy
Tempest has been a mercenary most of her adult life, and a soldier for almost two years too long. She's used to coming across injured and either putting them out of their misery, or assisting them if they were allies. It's almost a standard, and she hardly ever gives it a second thought. Killing is killing, to her; while she places little worth on her own life, she isn't about to allow herself to be killed easily, and it shows. She's precise with her sword and even moreso with her magic, slaying one foe in order to move onto the next - it's almost too easy for her, sometimes, to simply get lost in the movements until the battle is over.
But coming across people she knows, and in the wrong colors, even, is a first. It stops her in her tracks, and she nearly gets her head sliced off her shoulders for the distraction. She quickly cuts down the attacker, though, and moves to a position where she can see if the longing for old friends is playing with her mind. But no . . . no, that is a friend, and she finds herself going stock still; those aren't her colors. They aren't part of her dragonsworn, and they're part of the enemy's and-- for the first time in her life, Tempest has no idea on how to proceed.
She moves closer, under the guise of sneaking up on an enemy. What is she even supposed to do here? She can't kill them - can't *bring* herself to do it. Not when it's someone she cares about, not when her allies are right there and even a hint that she might help her fallen comrade would endanger her life. It pulls on her heart, and her nails dig into her palms. It wouldn't be a problem if it was someone she just recognized - she could live with that. But this . . . this is too much.
Tempest isn't the praying sort, but she closes her eyes, lets in a deep breath, and prays to the spirits she used to pray to when she was a girl and asks for their protection. She ignores the glance of an ally, and if they're saying something she doesn't hear them, as she starts murmuring in her native tongue. A brief, but earnest prayer for her friend's protection.
And while she hasn't done it in years (they didn't answer her prays when she was a girl, didn't protect her village or her and the gods *damn* them) she hopes that, for once, they'll listen now.
Because if her friend died, if it was because she was unable to help them because she didn't want to make it hard on herself *and* them, she wouldn't be able to live with herself.
