41. Being mistaken for a man ★ (Trivial Positive)
Tempest is around 19 in these memories or so! She's hanging out in a Certain Inn, and a few men come in, adding to the dinner crowd already there. She generally hides in her cloak, but tonight she has it down - and one of the men notices. And notices her ears, which sets him off on a tirade about elves. They're useless in combat, they're nature-loving savages, so on and so forth. As he's ranting away in Tempest's general direction, the other men who came in with him start agreeing with him, so on and so forth.
Tempest is, of course, ignoring the entire thing.
The first man, fed up with being ignored, grabs Tempest by the arm and demands that she leaves, saying something along the lines of "We don't want men like you around here!" Having never been mistaken for a man before this, Tempest is a little taken aback, and a lot insulted. She smacks his hand away and tells him that she isn't what he thinks she is, and to essentially fuck off.
That goes off about as well as you'd think. By the end of the fight, one man has made a hasty exit while on fire, and the rest ran off to follow him, scared they'd end up the same way.
Pleased with how quickly she handled that whole mess, she returns to her ale and completely ignores the looks she gets the rest of the night.
What she learned:
- Does she really look like a young man at this point
- Like really or are people just dumb
- She started handling "problems" like that sooner than she thought
42. FORCED INTO A CORSET. LIFE IS SUFFERING ☀ (Trivial Negative)
This is an Aurae memory! And takes place a liiittle before she meets Maias.
So anyway, there's a huge celebration going on in the village, and Aurae is in the midst of an argument with her mother over wearing a dress. A dress with one of those horrid corset things she's avoided up until now. Finally, a threat of grounding her from lessosns from her father is enough to get her to begrudgingly wear the damn thing.
And it's torture (in her mind). It's tight and boys are looking at her strange and she HATES IT and as soon as she's allowed to leave the celebration she practically runs home to change back into her usual pants and shirt. Because fuck dresses, and especially fuck corsets.
What she learned:
- She gets her temper from her mother
- Corsets are evil
- How do people breathe in these things
- No seriously, how
- No wonder she hates dressing up
