36. Wining and dining ★ (Neutral Trivial)
Maias' group (and Tempest) have stopped for the night at a pleasant little village south of the capital. Tempest immediately makes an escape to her own inn room, and is about to settle in for the night when there's a knock on the door. It's Maias, and he asks if she has a moment to spare to come see something. Something important! He needs her input, etc and so forth and before he can finish talking Tempest says she will before he can spin some stupid story as to why she should.
He leads her downstairs, to . . . an empty dining area. Everything has been put away for the night save for one table and set of chairs, that's set and has food waiting. And wine. Maias, who is either exploiting his boyish charms or being earnest, says that she's turned down his other offers of dinner, but he hoped that she would at least humor him and join him this time.
SHE WANTS TO SAY NO. She's waiting for her chance to kill him, but this is . . . sweet. No one's ever done this for her (not that it's some elaborate set-up or anything) and. Okay maybe she's a lot surprised he still wanted to have dinner with her despite her turning him down every other time. And . . . this reminds her of the Maias she knew in her youth before he turned out to be a terrible, loathsome human.
In a moment of weakness, she agrees. Overjoyed, Maias practically runs over to the table to pull a seat out for her, and the two actually have a pleasant meal, discussing idle things and not once does it shift to business talk.
After, he walks her to her room and says that he hopes she'll join him again next time and leaves before she can think up an answer.
What she learned:
- This takes place mmmmaybe a year or so after she started working with Maias.
- Maias likes to be grand about even the simplest thing god damn
- Oh . . . he tricked her into a dinner sort of
- Wait this isn't the first time he's asked her to dinner, she gets the feeling she's turned him down a lot
- But this is kinda nice actually
- Oh no she said yes
- OH NO SHE ENJOYED HERSELF A LITTLE
- +1000 self hatred
