Kyriakos | Memory 17

17. "But I don't understand. Why do they hate us?" ☀ (Neutral Negative)

One night when she's 8 or 9, a few people enter her village to seek shelter for the night. It's winter, and it had just begun to snow, so the Elders welcome them in and set them up with beds and food! You know, hospitable and all that. Since Aurae's father is one of a few who speaks Common fluently, he's asked to come and translate, and Aurae comes along, since she's learning and also in case they need healing.

But as conversation goes on, one of the men find out that the village is made up of humans and Elves, as well as half-bloods, and well, things go down hill from there. The men, after throwing a few insults ("They're abominations! How dare they be allowed to exist!"), leave the village and chance the winter weather instead.

On their way back to their house, Aurae asks her father about it. He tries to explain it as best as he can, and tells her the story of the Elven Priestess, who lost her powers after falling in love with a human. "But I don't understand. Why do they hate us?" "Because the world is a cruel place at times, Aurae."

Aurae spends the rest of the night with her father's books, trying to understand why the world thinks she's an abomination.

What she learned:
- WELP
- confirmation that humans of her world are terrible
- the Elven Priestess legend - which is the reason why Elves and humans hate her and her kind
- A bunch of little things she already knew or guessed at
- +50 hatred of humans
